Nigerian University to Name Faculty after President Mahama

The Ekiti State University of Nigeria has resolved to name the university’s faculty of Management Sciences after Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama.

This was made known when a delegation from the school paid a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House today.

Two years ago the Ekiti University conferred on President Mahama Honorary doctorate degree in Nigeria.

President Mahama expressed appreciation to the leadership of the school for the honor.

He took the opportunity to appeal to the striking University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to rescind its decision and go back to the classroom.

According to the president, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission is negotiating on the demand of books and research allowance.

The UTAG is in its day three of nationwide strike demanding government to pay fully its books and research allowance before going back to the classroom.

President Mahama said government is ready to facilitate payment after the FWSC negotiations and recommendations are done.

In his remark, the leader of the Ekiti State University, Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Akinjide Osuntokun, said, the university has decided to either name the university’s faculty of Management Sciences after President John Mahama or confer on him a professorship honor.

He urged President Mahama to make a choice and consider it done.

President Mahama will later today meet with the Council of State at the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region, after meeting with some envoys at the Flagstaff House.
