Deputy Minister designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Benita Sena Okity Dua, has called on Ghanaians not to reject the vulnerable and persons with disabilities.
She says every Ghanaian deserves assistance in diverse ways irrespective of his or her physical ability.
Sena Okity Dua has therefore promised to assist the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye-Lithur, if given the nod to organize sensitization programmes on how to adopt children with disabilities.
Benita Sena Okity Dua made this known when she appeared before the appointment committee for vetting on Thursday.
She expressed worry at the rate at which people are selective with the kind of children they adopt emphasizing that children with disabilities should be treated the same way ‘normal’ children are appreciated in the country.
She also took the opportunity to explain why she turned the Ghana flag upside-down in one of her questions to the Foreign Minister Hannah Tetteh, when she appeared before the appointment committee.
Benita Sena Okity Dua indicated that there are instances where some ministers turn their national flags upside-down without noticing saying “I wanted to see if our minister who will be representing the country would be observant in such situations.”
