Zita's bodyguard arrested for armed robbery
The bodyguards of the Minister of Tourism, Zita Okaikoi and Chairman of the Council of State, Prof. Kofi Awoonor, have been arrested for alleged armed robbery on the Accra-Aflao road.
According to Daily Guide, Prof. Kofi Awoonor’s police body guard, a certain Sebastian, and Zita’s Richard embarked upon an authorized operation on the Accra-Aflao road and got arrested.

On the evening of Saturday, April 10, according to sources, the two policemen, in the company of three others are alleged to have pursued an Aflao-bound commercial bus on which was a Malian black market dealer with loads of cash and eventually caught up with the vehicle around the Prampram junction.

The two who were assisted by three civilians, attracted the attention of a passing Police Patrol Team who found out that even though the suspects were bona fide policemen, they had attempted to rob the Malian and other passengers of their money.

The Malian and other passengers on board had to engage the suspects in serious confrontation, attracting the patrol team to the scene.

While ‘Sebastian was in uniform, his colleague was in mufti, apparently to give the operation a semblance of authorization.

The two policemen and their accomplices are being held by the Tema Regional Police.

ACP Augustine Gyening, the Tema Regional Police Commander, who confirmed the story, explained that the culprits belong to the Monitoring Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Accra, refusing to give their identities.

According to him, the suspects blocked a portion of the Accra-Aflao road and robbed some travelers of their possessions.

A patrol team, upon a tip-off, raced to the scene and managed to arrest the two cops alongside the tow other civilians, adding that a fifth person is on the run.

ACP Gyening declined to give further details because according to him, being a fresh case and under investigation, he could not go that far.

The regional Commander gave the assurance that the suspects would be arraigned when investigations are over.
