| President Mills Briefs AU Summit |
President John Evans Atta Mills today gave a briefing on the Kwame Nkrumah Centenary celebration at a special session of Heads of State and Governments at the 15th Ordinary Assembly of the African Union in Kampala, Uganda.
It followed President Mills’ request to the Continental body last year that in recognition of his immense contribution to the struggle for independence from colonial rule, Ghana’s founding father, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, must be celebrated by all Africans. President Mills said the intellectual, moral and material support, towards the successful commemoration of the centenary could not have been possible without the support of the AU. After receiving numerous congratulatory messages from leaders at the summit for the sterling performance of the Black Stars, President Mills singled out South Africa for praise for successfully organising the World Cup. He also thanked the the leaders and Africans in general for supporting the Black Stars during the tournament. President Mills also condemned the dastardly attack on innocent civilians which claimed about 70 lives of people who were watching the finals of the World Cup on television in Uganda.
